Here’s a little taste of football since we’re only weeks away before summer camp! Charts will be posted later. I’m sorry, I just can’t wait that long!!
Rushing
Eleven players recorded rushing stats last year with Broderick Green, Joe Adams, De’ Anthony Curtis and Marquel Wade being the only ones who aren’t with the team.
Dennis Johnson, Ronnie Wingo, Jr., Kody Walker, Brandon Mitchell, Kiero Small, Ronald Watkins, and Tyler Wilson all return having accumulated 76% of the total number of rushes, 69% of the net yardage gain, and 72% of all rushing touchdowns.
While Knile Davis’ totals from 2010 don’t add fairly to the numbers above, Knile had 204 carries for 1,322 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2010.
Passing
Just chalk it all up here. Tyler Wilson and Brandon Mitchell are the only two players who tossed the ball last year. 100% of the Hogs’ passing attempts, completions, interceptions, yards, touchdowns, and 2 point conversions return.
Total Offense
It seems hardly possible but with the way the NCAA keeps stats, Arkansas returns players responsible for 89% of the offensive plays last year. Between the rushing and passing numbers above, the Razorbacks return a whopping 90% of the total offensive yards from 2011 without considering what Knile Davis brings to the table.
Receiving
It is no secret that the Razorbacks take a hit in the receiving corps this year, but exactly how much of one by the numbers?
Players who are not returning or not currently on the team and who logged receiving stats are Jarius Wright, Joe Adams, Marquel Wade, De’ Anthony Curtis, Greg Childs, Broderick Green, and Maudrecus Humphrey.
Returning are Cobi Hamilton, Chris Gragg, Dennis Johnson, Ronnie Wingo, Jr., Javontee Herndon, Julian Horton, Austin Tate, Kiero Small, and Colton Miles-Nash. Believe it or not, returning players accounted for 48% of all receptions, 46% of all yards, and 38% of receiving touchdowns. In 2010, Knile Davis had 19 catches for 136 yards and 1 touchdown.
Scoring
With the addition of Zach Hocker to the equation above and considering touchdowns on defense and special teams, the Razorbacks return players who accounted for 51% of the Hogs’ touchdowns and 63% of the team’s total points.
We’ll have more on the upcoming 2012 season soon!! There must be time to start the tailgating checklists, and what we’re going to cover, and where we’re going to be, and maybe t-shirts, and….
