Razorbacks Make History in Final AP Poll

The Arkansas Razorbacks have finished in the Top 5 of the Associated Press Poll for the first time since Lou Holtz’s 1977 team which finished at No. 3 in the Associated Press Final Poll.   For Bobby Petrino’s team, the final ranking caps a  2011 run which saw the Razorbacks ranked in the AP Top 25 for the entire year and delivers the second entire season where the Hogs have been ranked in the AP Top 25 Poll (that’s 32 straight AP Top 25 weekly, pre-season, and final polls).

The 2011 Hogs’ finish marks only the 4th time in school history where the Razorbacks have finished in the Top 5 of the Associated Press Final Poll.  In addition to the Orange Bowl winning 1977 Razorbacks, the 2011 Hogs rank along the 1964 Razorbacks who finished No. 2 in the final AP Poll and the 1965 Razorbacks who finished at No. 3. (It wasn’t until 1968 that the Associated Press had its final poll after all bowl games were played. )

Back to 1936, the Hogs have been ranked in the Final AP Poll 27 times.  In all the AP has ranked the Razorbacks in the Top 10 14 times overall.  In the total history of the AP Poll, the Hogs have now been ranked 407 times in the 1037 Associated Press Football Polls making the Arkansas Razorbacks ranked in 39.2% of all AP Football Polls.
