Arkansas Special Teams’ Coach John L. Smith is New Weber State Head Coach

On Monday, Arkansas Special Teams’ coach John L. Smith accepted the head coaching position for Weber State. Smith has been a head coach for 17 years with his last HC stint coming at Michigan State from 2003-2006 where he led the Spartans to a 22-26 record. He also was the head coach for Louisville until Bobby Petrino took over.

John L. Smith graduated from Weber State as a QB/LB for the Wildcats. This is his first return to his alumni since 1971 when he finished his Graduate Assistant career at Weber State.

Smith’s hiring comes after a week’s worth of rumors on Twitter that never took off. He joins Arkansas OC Garrick McGee as current Arkansas’ assistants who have accepted head coaching positions at other schools this season.
