Bobby Petrino’s Son was Arrested… Is it news?

As a big fan of the Razorbacks and Bobby Petrino, it’s tough to post this. I know Petrino will probably take a hit in the national media, but he did the smart thing and addressed it (see quote below) early. As with any current or former Razorback (Nick was listed as a backup QB on our 2010 Spring roster) we’re going to let you know if anything noteworthy comes up… just as we did with Mitch Mustain a few months ago.

It’s been a rough week for Bobby Petrino… After Arkansas Offensive lineman, Anthony Oden was arrested earlier this month and eventually kicked off the team last friday, his son, Nick Petrino (23 yrs old) was arrested this morning in Indiana with similar charges.

The AP Reports that Nick Petrino was arrested by The Huntingburg Police Department at 12:06 a.m. this morning and charged with driving while intoxicated, possession of marijuana, illegal possession of prescription drugs and possession of paraphernalia. The police report says that Nick Petrino was stopped after weaving off a roadway. Police say a blood test showed the presence of marijuana and prescription opiates. He was released on $1,000 bond later Monday.

Bobby Petrino released a statement early this afternoon:

“Nick is our son, he is not a member of the Arkansas football team. As such, this is not a University of Arkansas issue. Instead, it is a family matter and a legal matter. My family will trust and respect the legal system and will not comment outside that process. Becky and I ask that you appreciate and respect the private nature of this issue and understand our lack of further comment.”
