After watching the Alabama-Florida match up, Hog fans can’t help but think about how closely Arkansas played the Crimson Tide.
While many members of the national media say that the Hogs aren’t ready to play with the elite teams, I believe Florida proved otherwise. Certainly Arkansas had the benefit of playing in front of a rabid home crowd of 76,808, but regardless, for 54:59 the Hogs had the no. 1 team in the nation on their heels.
Florida never had a chance. Sitting at no. 7 in the polls, Florida was either grossly over rated, or Alabama is that good. If it is indeed the latter, then Hog fans across the country have a team to be proud of.
The Arkansas Razorbacks have eight games remaining and I believe Hog fans are in for a season long over due. With Arkansas stepping out of conference play to take on old SWC rival Texas A&M, the 2010 season will continue to shape up for a championship bid behind the offensive genius of Coach Bobby Petrino and the rocket arm of Ryan Mallett.
Georgia’s loss to Colorado doesn’t help make a case for the vast improvement the Razorbacks have made on both sides of the ball. With Auburn, Ole Miss and South Carolina on the horizon, Arkansas is poised to make a run for the SEC west crown, with a little help from Alabama’s grueling schedule, of course.
With Alabama’s next six opponents coming off of bye weeks, Arkansas will need a little help from at least two of them. But the season is young in the greatest conference in college football, and we all know that crazy things can happen in the SEC.
